Reason

the reason you wake up in the middle of the night
and maybe you felt like you were falling
maybe you could hear the voices from your past calling
knew you had a future, but you were stalling

I'd love to advise you but I can't play the wise one
I'm just as confused as you about what to do
I try not to think too much about tomorrow
but, I admit, sometimes I wonder what they're telling you

*Too bad, it's so so sad you've got to go
but then you're back again, make up your mind
and I'll be kind....

Wake up and put your foot down funky like a clown
now you're in the mood for a ridiculous groove
with your floppy hat, rubber nose, and oversized shoes,
you're lookin' so serious.
Mysteriously, I see you're leavin' a trail for me to find
all about your state of mind
I don't think it's necessary, but I wouldn't wanna carry that
burden for you.
Here's what you do if you find yourself falling
for any motherfucker who might come calling
stand up, and stop waiting for someone else
to tell you what to think.
I'm on the brink, but I bet you're slipping over the edge
can you explain to me exactly what it is you pledged?
I think I'll die for a flag and a tuna salad sandwich
when I feel a little famished....

Still thinking about the dream I had
A million windows full of sunlight
No thinker to have a thought
None to do, but all is done.

I'm lookin' around for familiar faces
everyone I see is lookin' like my family
How did I get into this monkey suit anyway?
guess I'm livin' like I really think I ought to be...

*

You might think you know
a little bit about me from what you see
but you're assuming a lot
and I wouldn't be
so quick to judge while my fingers are still hot
Here's the sub-plot:
you're livin' like a robot workin' the 9 to 5 grind
it's affecting your state of mind
So easy to lose what you love
Get up and get yourself a shovel
dig up your bullshit, let your light shine
no use cryin' when you're up to your neck
it's just time for a head-check...

(guitar solo)

*

you've got to go, but then you're back again
make up your mind and I'll be fine...
